First Tuesday Tech Tran Coffee Talk
The SIU Technology Transfer Program (a.k.a., Jeff and Amy) will be hosting the monthly First Tuesday Tech Transfer Coffee Talk on Tuesday, April 3, from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the SIU Student Center McDonalds. We invite you to join us for some coffee and rolls and to sit and chat with us or the group about tech transfer, inventions, patents, and innovation. We hope to see you there. Effective due diligence is one of the most critical steps in successful angel investing. This half day drill-down workshop takes the angel investor through the key issues which will determine major risk factors and deal breakers. The workshop emphasizes what must be confirmed, the cost of confirming, and the risk of not knowing. Workshop attendees learn what it takes to validate the plan and to define and contain the risk of investment. This course is highly interactive and includes presentations, panel discusions and case studies.
Angel Resource Institute: An In-Depth Look at Term Sheets

Angel investing is high risk investing. Consequently certain safeguards are understandable and appropriate. This workshop facilitate in-depth presentations and discussions of the term and conditions commonly used by angel investors in funding early stage ventures. Attendees will become familiar with a wide variety of investment terms and processes through five main sections: -Core principles and processes -Structure of company and ownership interests -Mechanics of financial terms -Investor rights provisions -Protective provisions This course will also include panel discussions from local experts.

The main focus is to provide technology readiness and technology commercialization tools and metrics to effectively execute the end-to-end product delivery process. A key technology commercialization tool, for achieving best in class quality, schedule, cost and creating customer value, is the Time to Market (TTM) process. Effective TTM metrics management, TTM execution and TTM best-in-class-case studies will be presented. ARTHUR M. GOORAY, PhD
Art Gooray is an experienced Engineering Executive bringing a broad set of practical technology transfer, technology commercialization, business planning and organizational learning skills to leadership roles. For over 30 years, through the use of engineering excellence best practices, he has successfully executed strategic technology transfer and technology commercialization for large companies and universities.
Art Gooray is currently a Product Development Manager at Eastman Kodak, Dayton OH. Prior to this, for 6 years, Art was at Eastman Kodak Co., in Rochester NY, in the consumer ink jet business division, as a Senior Research Associate. Prior to this, for 19 years, Art was at the Xerox Corporation, as a Technical Program Manager.Art's expertise is in practical execution of technology transfer, technology readiness and technology commercialization. His key responsibilities are in developing best-in-class teams to effectively execute time to market best practices, with a focus on technology transfer, technology readiness and technology commercialization. Art has developed graduate level classes on Technology Commercialization and Innovation/Entrepreneurship best practices. He is currently teaching such classes at Wright State University, school of Engineering. Art has also been an Adjunct Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Rochester. Art has also helped with the establishment of Technology Transfer/Product Development centers at universities. In addition, for over twenty years, Art has been the Industry Key Executive to a Historical Black College and University (HBCU), Howard University. He has also managed a pilot program to successfully transfer technology from government lab (Sandia National Lab) to industry commercialization business unit (Xerox). Additionally, he has demonstrated his entrepreneurial drive by forming an international engineering consulting company (Skanda USA, LLC) with partnerships in the USA, India and South Africa (no longer active). In addition, Art is a board member of the nation's Global Innovation Forum Brain Thrust (http://globalinnovationforum.wordpress.com/). Art received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics and Math from Howard University in Washington DC, an MS in Engineering Physics from University of Virginia in Charlottesville and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Howard University. Art has over 20 external publications and received over 40 patents. Art has received many speaking awards at HBCU's and received honors from HBCU's for his innovations in developing technology transfer/commercialization and entrepreneurship knowledge centers.
Lecture Notes: The power point lectures will be posted online and they are based on 30 years practical technology commercialization experiences; and thus, they will enhance the materials in the reference text book. The lectures are organized according to the TTM process, which is slightly different order than the text book.
Reference Textbook: Creating Breakthrough Products: Innovation from Product Planning to Program Approval, Jonathan Cagan and Craig M. Vogel, Prentice Hall, 2002.
